Crate Expectations: Teki Latex

The biographical playlist of Teki Latex

Like most people, DJs and producers have specific songs tied to events throughout their lives. In Crate Expectations, we extract a playlist from their memories to tell their story. This week's subject: Teki Latex.

THUMP: What's the first song you ever loved?
Teki Latex: "I Only Wanna Be With You" by Samantha Fox. I loved the video and I asked my mom to take me to the record store to buy the CD.

What are the first two songs you ever mixed together?
I think it was the King Britt Funke Mix of "Contemplation" by Josh One and the extended mix of "The Bomb" by Bucketheads. At least that was one of the first "decent" mixes i achieved blending them for a super long time cause the intro for Bucketheads is soooo long. These songs really made me fall in love with house music.

What's your worst guilty pleasure song?
Man! I feel Like a Woman" by Shania Twain. It's my semi-country jam.

What song have you had on repeat in the past month?
"Nothing More To Say" by Sophie. I love the classic italo vibes mixed with the modern production

Which track of your own do you like the most?
Canblaster - "Clockworks (Para One and Teki Latex remix)". We were super inspired when we came up with this, i wrote the lyrics in a taxi on the way to the studio. Para's work on the production is insane. We just kept bouncing ideas off each other in the studio, it felt like magic. This song is the starting point to a lot of the stuff i've done since, notably the album i'm currently working on with Para

Which track of your own do you hate the most?
"Champagne Sans Bulle A" by TTC. A super lame song from my rap group which got scrapped from our first album but probably came out as a b side to a single. It's the lamest piece of anti industry pseudo-rebellion by a bunch of post-adolescent french rappers acting mad at something they don't understand just for the sake of being underground and posing as indy cats not willing to get ripped off by major companies, back when no major company cared or even remotely knew who we were. It's the epitomy of the ridiculous poseur anti-establishment rap cliché, we did it purely to conform to certain codes of a scene we wanted so bad to be a part of. If a different me came out with this song today i would probably want to punch that version of me in the face for making such a dishonest, stupid, embarrassing song. Not even mentioning the atrocious guitar sample which is basically everything i stand against musically now.

What's the last song you want to hear before the lights go on?
"Dancing Queen" by Abba. Do i really need to explain why? Abba are pure pop perfection. That song makes me cry every time. And please don't file this under guilty pleasure.
