Twerps Say It’s Time For Marriage Equality

Right now Australia is waiting on the results of an $122 million, optional, non-binding, statistical postal survey that will be used as an indication of Australia's views on marriage equality. Then the country will wait some more to see if a bunch of mostly straight politicians put forward a same sex marriage bill and vote on it in parliament. In the meantime, a group of Australian musicians and bands have come together to be involved in a mixtape to help drive the 'Yes' message.

Thirty Days of Yes is a new subscription mixtape that brings together a bunch of artists including Beaches, Courtney Barnett, Hockey Dad, Laura Jean, Marcus Whale, Sui Zhen, Terry, and Two Steps on the Water, all of whom will release a song a day over 30 days. Developed in response to the Australian Marriage Law Postal Survey, the tape will help show support for the LGBTQI+ community, particularly the youth community who don't have a voice in the public debate. 100 percent of the profits will go to LGBTQI+ youth organisations Minus18 and Twenty10.

Melbourne foursome Twerps have launched the project with unreleased song "It's Time". Written by ex-bassist Rick Milovanovic, the song was recorded during the band's sessions for their 2015 album Range Anxiety. "'It's Time' was written in 2013 during the rise of the Abbott era," explains Rick. "The song was a reminder to him and his party that they would not be speaking on behalf of all straight Australians. Most importantly, it was also a message of support to the LGBTQI+ community, that a lot of straight Australians would be right by their side in the fight for equality in this country."
