Oobah Butler, the VICE reporter who made his garden shed the number one restaurant in London and infiltrated Paris Fashion Week with a pair of knock-off jeans, has played the Australian media—more specifically, Sunrise—like a fiddle.Inundated with media attention in the wake of his recent viral stunts, and with journalists flocking for a chat with the real man behind the act, Oobah doubled down and continued to dupe the world at large via a carefully curated team of doppelgängers. He sent fake versions of himself on TV, and everyone fell for it. Don't beat yourselves up too much Sunrise: the BBC was also none the wiser.“Oobah” appeared live on Weekend Sunrise under the headline “Return of the prankster” to discuss, among other things, his special knack for deception. And despite the breakfast program having already interviewed the real, flesh-and-blood Oobah a little under a year ago, both presenters seemed completely oblivious to the fact that they were actually talking to Oobah’s very much not-identical brother Pete.Monique Wright, who was present for both interviews, barely batted an eyelid as pseudo-Oobah discussed his interests in “identity fluidity” and explained that “I’m not even the same person I was a year ago.”Watch the whole thing below, or check out the Sunrise interview here.
