An Appreciation of Mike Francesa's Reaction to that Monster Yoenis Cespedes Home Run

Mike Francesa's face after Yoenis Cespedes hit a home run last night is priceless.

The look on @WFAN660 Mike Francesca's face as #Mets @ynscspds homers in 4th is priceless. http://t.co/l8yfXjoZgB pic.twitter.com/Zc7EFExg5x

In the fourth inning of the Mets 13-7 win over the Dodgers at Citi Field last night, Yoenis Cespedes clubbed a baseball with such brutality you almost felt bad for whoever first got their hands on it. It was awesome and not in the Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure meaning of the word. For a time, I thought the lasting image of that moment would be Cespedes's merciless swing, or his ridiculous bat flip, but then came this photograph of New York sports radio giant Mike Francesa.

It seems the power of Cespedes turned Francesa into the human version of his trademark "uhhh" verbal tic. Or maybe it gave him a temporary palsy, we just don't know. What we do know is that Mike Francesa, who I think is in the process of hoisting up his pants after standing up, looks like a dog who just noticed his owner was cutting up a little steak for him. He seems almost incapable of comprehending why the drool is spilling out of his mouth, but he knows it is good and he likes it.

That's not to make fun of him (entirely), because this is the truest reaction to cool things happening in sports. When something amazing happens in a game like this, it becomes a sensory overload. There are so many sounds and sights that it's impossible to focus on any one thing, so your brain goes into autopilot. You see flashes of action as you try to process it all, and all you can do is ride it out and maybe say something like "holy shit."

I was in da building for Jeter's 3,000th hit and it reminds me a lot of that. I remember exactly where I was standing and everything up until the actual home run. After that it's a blur of crazy, incomprehensible yelling and jumping. I'm sure I made some ridiculous faces, and I'm sure I said "holy shit" at least once, too.

This is Mike Francesa's "holy shit" face and it couldn't be more perfect.
