Question Of The Day

Do You Give a Shit About Murray Winning Wimbledon?

"No. Not at all."

The world has come to a stop. Children have been left uncollected in the playground, businesses are failing as workers stay at home, glued to their televisions. Even soldiers are putting down their weapons in favour of portable TV screens. Why? Because some things are just more important than war, aren't they? Like tennis. Tennis is more important than war.

As Wimbledon starts up once again, certain questions are being brought back into the public forum; just who is the best at tennis? Who can hit the ball over the net the most times and get the most points? Will Andy Murray win? And, most importantly, does anyone give a shit?

Joe (left) and Beth.

Joe, student: Not at all.

You don’t buy into all the hysteria?
Beth, student: I didn’t even realise there was any hysteria.
Joe: If I was Scottish, I would care.

So there's a bit of
Yeah, I swear he hates English people.

So if he wins do you think you’ll sneakily go over to the other side of the fence?
Beth: No.
Joe: It’s just funnier when the British people lose, isn't it? Like Tim Henman – that’s why they liked him

Julie (left) and Sonny.

Sonny, web designer: No. Not at all. What about you?
Julie, graphic designer: It would be nice if he won, yeah.

Would you crack open the bubbly?
No. It’s just that I felt so sorry for him last year.

That’s it? Pity support?
Sonny: It’s not about the fun. If he’s good enough, he’s good enough and he’ll do it. It’s as simple as that really.

It really is.

Ria, model: I don’t really care, no.

What? It's not going to change your life if he wins?
I can’t see how it’s going to affect my life, no.

Is that just because you’re not a tennis fan, or because you’re not a Murray fan?
No, I do quite like it actually – my dad watches it all the time.

What about your dad? Will he lose his shit if Murray wins?
He just doesn’t really like Murray, to be honest. I can’t think of anyone who would lose their shit – not me or my dad, certainly.

Claire, mum: Yeah, it would be nice if he won, wouldn’t it? And he’s got a bit more of a chance now, hasn’t he?
Rebecca, daughter: Yeah, it would be nice

Are you tennis fans then?
Claire: I’m not really a sports fan at all, no.

Do you mind how grumpy he is?
I think he’s improved since last year. He came second and got that out of the way, which was pretty bloody amazing.

Jak, former architect: Oh, he won?

No.
