Preview Some ‘Ibiza Heat’ With This Blazing Santé & Sidney Charles Mix

The Balearic bad boys reminisce about good and secret times on the White Isle.

It's been a good season in Ibiza so far for Santé, Sidney Charles, and Darius Syrossian. After a much publicized split from their former residency at Sankeys, the trio found a new home at Privilege's Vista Club. It is there that they launched Do Not Sleep Sundays, which has become one of the island's most talked about newcomer events. In fact, after an amazing start to their first run originally intended to conclude in the first week of September, they've announced they will even be extending the party until the end of the season.

To keep this momentum going, Santé plans to drop Ibiza Heat on his Avotre label on August 21. The compilation features cuts from Kuo Climax, Ale Castro, Locklead, Montel, and Mennie, as well as both himself and Sidney Charles. In the meantime, the two have crafted us a blazing mix to preview the release, as well as sat down to reminisce about their good and secret times on the White Isle.

THUMP: What is your first memory of Ibiza that especially stands out and why?
Santé: I came for the first time to Ibiza in 2006 for the Space closing. It was insane, I´d never seen a club like this before and I wanted to play there. Well, almost 9 years later I got to play the club's opening. It was a dream come true moment. I got goosebumps when I took the stage because I was remembering myself in the crowd all that time ago. No words for this!

Sidney Charles: I was 12 years old. It's strange but I can remember almost everything about this small holiday. I had a football match in Barcelona, then my mum picked me up and we flew over. It was low season and the island was pretty much silent. We didn't book any hotels but we found a super nice hostel directly on Talamanca. As soon as you stepped out of the door, you had sand between your toes. Since then I always wanted to go back to the island. Last year was the first time I came back after that and I fell in love with it immediately. Most people think that Ibiza is there for party tourists only… but you have to know the other side as well. I loved driving up north and searching for the small beaches. You can have some serious chill time there, which is very good if you live stressful DJ life. This island has a special vibe which is very hard to duplicate in Europe.

Do either of you have a specific Ibiza experience that you single out as your craziest?
S: Sure, our own breathtaking Do Not Sleep opening at Vista Club. Headlining your own night is just an incredible feeling, even more so when you can share the decks with your best friends! Big ups to Darius Syrossian and Sidney Charles. These guys are the greatest partners someone can have.

SC: After one of my gigs last year, a friend of mine took me to an secret villa party near the airport. We rode on his Harley and were driving for about 45 minute until we arrived at this amazing house with a big pool outside. I'd never seen something like this… there were 300 to 400 people celebrating like there was no morning. This was definitely my craziest Ibiza experience to date.

Are there any secret stories or tips about the island you have never shared with anyone?
S: There is still so much to discover, especially when you go north. Silent, secret beaches where you can recharge your batteries for the next rave night!
SC: One of my flatmates told me that you can actually surf in Ibiza. I am a passionate surfer and I could not believe his words. So Santé and I went to some beaches to see whether the rumours were true… and they are! We found a really cool spot with decent waves. I won't tell you exactly where as it will spread like a virus when everyone knows, but I'll reveal that it's more north and higher up even than Santa Eulalia.

Explain one key difference between being an Ibiza rookie and an island veteran?
S: I guess a rookie needs to visit all the clubs and nightlife to see what everything looks like, right? However you'll find a veteran on a Monday afternoon in the backstage bar at DC10.
SC: As a veteran, you have the ability to make the most of your downtime, even in the high season. This is because you know the island so well and you're familiar with the hidden sides of it. If you are a rookie, you will probably go to the overcrowded beaches and get stressed out quickly. It's quite hard to enjoy your holiday then!

There is always so much chatter about somewhere else becoming the 'new Ibiza.' Can anywhere actually replace the island?
S: Lots of nice places in the world, but only one Ibiza. There is something magical on this island. Maybe it´s the spirit of the old hippies or of the first raves at Amnesia in the early 80s. I don't know, but whatever it is, you can still feel when you visit.
SC: I heard from a lot of people that Croatia will be the new Ibiza, but in my eyes nothing can be ever like it. Ibiza is simply unique in its history, as are the people who have created the vibe on this island for more than a decade. Ibiza also has a very special energy caused by a magnetic field which can be recognized by a compass at severely locations on the island. Croatia might has the same beauty but it doesn't have the same history and this is what makes Ibiza so special.
