Maceo Plex Joins The DJ Kicks Elite With His New Mix For !K7 [Exclusive Premiere]

Joining the ranks of past contributors like DJ Cam, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and Four Tet.

Since the mid 90s, !K7's DJ Kicks series has been a staple of mix culture, each edition bringing forward a hero of a different style of music. The format has always been open, and the DJs are always the best in their sound. In the series' early days, legends like Kruder & Dorfmeister, DJ Cam, amd Kemistry & Storm all contributed albums, moving forward to include such acts as Chromeo, Hot Chip, and Four Tet.

A new DJ Kicks only drops a couple of time a year, and we've been eagerly anticipating the first one of 2013, DJ Kicks: Maceo Plex. For this one, the American DJ pulled out some classic cuts that have something that dance music has lost over the ages. "For the last three years at least, the big trend has been early '90s house," says Maceo Plex. "Everything's a throwback. I think it's the right time to put out something that's a little more deep and futuristic again." Plex had to augment several of the tracks so make them work within a mordern set. "A lot of them were missing percussion, or some other element I thought they could use."

Whatever he did, it worked to revive that classic feel, all the while serving as a re-up on something that dance music has lost. Check out an exclusive track from the mix above.
