Guys, Abz' Brit Award is Now Going for Over £1,000,000 on eBay and He's Freaking Out

"All I needed was a bit of soil and it's gone nuts."

As you'll have seen us cover yesterday, Abz Love - aka the artist formerly known as Abz of the British boyband 5ive - put his Brit Award up on eBay a few days ago in order to fund "a delivery of topsoil and maybe some garden tools" for his farm.

When Noisey first reported it, the bidding stood at an impressive but still fairly rational £5,000, but once the entire world wide web caught wind of what was going on, bids began to escalate by the thousands every minute and have now surpassed one million pounds in Great British pounds. One actual million pounds of money. I don't know how many shovels that would buy, but I'm guessing a lot. Multi purpose topsoil goes for 13p per litre on Wickes, so with the bid now on £1,100,300.00 exactly, Abz could get himself 8463846.15385 litres of the stuff. The way things are going he will probably be able to buy a small island, re-surface the entire thing, and still have enough for, like, ten or fifteen plant pots.

International Business Times reported that Abz learned of the bid during an interview with the Press Association and said: "It has to be a hoax – it can't be real. I don't need a million quid! I feel light-headed. All I needed was a bit of soil and it's gone nuts. I better get in touch with eBay – that's a lot of soil."

I like to think this is the work of a few honest die-hard 5ive fans who genuinely want Abz' Brit Award in their life as a piece of pop cultural history, to have and hold, but this is 2015, and this is the cynical internet age, so it's most definitely the same breed of total troll liability that shafted the bookies a few months back by slapping a £15,000 bid on Radiohead for the new Bond theme.

However, you can't just bid with wild abandon on eBay. There are rules, apparently: "To place a bid of £15,000 or more, you must provide a valid credit card. This requirement helps ensure that members involved in large sales are of legal age and serious about completing the transaction."

So, there. Bidders, if you're reading this and you're just trying to do one over on Abz, I've just gone and ruined it for you. But you still might make the front page of Reddit.
