Video: Daedelus - "Tiptoes"

May we all live on in glittery explosions after we die.

Daedelus, the veteran beatmaker from LA who's cranked out more than a dozen albums in as many years, has always seemed like the electronic music world's quirky uncle from out of town. He has consistently risen above faddish trends and publicity stunts with his wildly expressive productions, preposterously furry muttonchops, and Victorian cravats straight out of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Drown Out, Daedelus' latest full-length, was a product of grief after a string of personal losses: his grandmother, another close family member, and his musical collaborator Austin Peralta, a 22-year-old child prodigy and pianist, all passed away last year. Like many of Daedelus' previous productions, Drown Out is stuffed with field recordings, from clattering skateboards to chirping crickets and even someone drying their eyes. But "Tiptoes" is the album's most elegiac track, with an angelic choir singing over fuzzed-out, dusty grooves.

Fittingly, the accompanying music video, produced and directed by Michael Wingate, is a series of lavender-washed vignettes of otherworldly landscapes, with a solitary figure flitting between them before dissolving in a ball of glitter. It's a sumptuous way to imagine the afterlife, so stew in it a little.
