Giancarlo Stanton to Miss 4-6 Weeks With Broken Bone in Hand

Giancarlo Stanton will miss up to six weeks with a broken bone in his left hand. This is a bummer for baseball.

Giancarlo Stanton broke a bone in his hand last night against the Dodgers and reports are that he will miss up to six weeks with the injury. Stanton was in obvious pain following a couple of swings in the later innings and was set to undergo a series of tests to determine the extent of the inury. Earlier this morning, ESPN's Tim Kurkjian reported that Stanton broke his hamate bone and will require surgery.

It looked like Stanton injured his left hand on a swing in the sixth inning (above) and then aggravated it again in the ninth (below).

Stanton told reporters last night that the location of injury was "on my hand where I grip the bat, where it rotates in my hand."

"My bat dug into my hand a little bit," Stanton told reporters. "It didn't feel the greatest. Just get checked out and then know for sure what's going on."

Stanton did get checked out and according to Marlins reporter Joe Frisaro, swelling limited the view on X-Rays, but he was also set to have a CT scan and an MRI, which presumably noted the break. Stanton is one of baseball's great, young players and currently has 27 home runs including monster shots like this and this, so this is obviously a huge bummer for the Marlins and baseball fans.
