Straightforward Revelations From Stefan Sagmeister

A coinciding exhibition and book release from “the enfant terrible” of graphic design.

Austrian born New York-based design guru and author Stefan Sagmeister, whose critically acclaimed 2009 TED Talk: “The Power of Time Off” expounded upon the importance of closing his office every seven years to take a year off to soak up inspiration, has just released a new body of work collected, coincidentally, over the past seven years.

Now on view at the MUDAC in Switzerland through June 13th, the exhibition entitled Another Exhibit about Promotion and Sales Material further credits Sagmeister as an ever-inspirational thought leader through the presence (or photographs) of large-scale social commentary installations, as well as smaller CD covers and event invitations, all of which encompass his transformative and off-beat, yet simplistic, design tendencies.

An accompanying book: Another Book about Promotion and Sales Material provides discourse on the same body of work, and comments on topics like why creative freedom needs perfect organization, his decision to turn down the offer to work for President Obama (he was on sabbatical), and his reasons for hating “style”.

Visit Sagmeister’s online studio for more insight into his world.
