Live By The Pipe

Bob Hund, also known as Bergman Rock, has been around forever and ever. And right now we’ve been hearing a lot of rumours about them, including that they’ve started playing live again, for the first time in years. That’s great news, but we’ve also been hearing stories about how they sleep in a metal pipes at construction sites, and that one of the band members has been forced to wear a wooden leg. Vice: So we heard you were all destitute and living outdoors. Conny Nimmersjö: It’s not true. We USED to be pretty poor. You know, we all had our spaghetti weeks. We would eat nothing but spaghetti, and sometimes spaghetti with canned corn. I can’t even eat canned corn anymore. There have been times where we didn’t have enough money to get home from our practice space, we’d just have to crash there instead. But it’s never been really bad. There was always a way to work things out. But still, it’s no fun when you’re in a rough spot, you know, it effects the music too. You’re never as good as you could be when you don’t have enough money. Johnny [the band’s other guitarist] was always getting in trouble because of stuff like that. One time he was going to the Social Welfare Office and when he was getting on a bus his papers miraculously fell out of his back pocket. So he got to Soc and told them about it and they just rolled their eyes like “Yeah sure, that’s what they all say.” Ha ha, he was desperate so he had to borrow about €50 from Thomas [the singer]. But you know, getting €50 to last for a month is hard work. That same night a good friend of his was having a birthday dinner at this really fancy restaurant. Other than the fact that he was paying for food at one of the most expensive restaurants in Stockholm, everyone ordered fucking lobster, ha ha! After that he was dead broke again, and had to spend the whole month penniless. What about sleeping in a pipe then? It’s a friend of mine, he lives in one of those cement cylinders, you know like those street pipes they keep laying around construction sites. He doesn’t live there anymore, he had to move out when the construction workers were going to use the pipes for some sewage system thing. But the older you get, the easier it is to be poor. Everyone you know is grown up, and people are more able and willing to lend cash to friends in need. What about the wooden leg then? You can’t really tell that a leg is missing. I mean, if you look at pictures you wouldn’t even notice. And it’s not even a real wooden leg either. It’s more like… real looking. PATRICK CROTTY
