Premiere: Bow Down To Joel Mull's Massive New Techno EP

Genuflection you can gyrate to.

Joel Mull's heaving techno juggernaut 'Geodesi' is no more tyrannical that any other techno track of its ilk. You know the type - those big Minotaurian fucks that sound like they're recorded in Carnegie-sized chambers, which flat-out demand you cower at their feet.

The difference with 'Geodesi' is, cutting through the track's prevailing air of cruelty is a keen sense of fun. Which is to say that the Swede tech-lord's latest weapon nigh on delights in its tyranny, making the track roughly 150 times more evil than it may otherwise have been. It really twists the knife. On the one hand you've got the remorseless kettle-drum kicks, the periodic utterances of some spectral machine, and that drowned bassline, spiriting you inexorably towards nameless doom. So far, so nasty. So stern. On the other hand you've got those cheeky little spindles of arachnid percussion your hear at 1:50, or the swing of those toms that verges on funky, the false build-up in the final minute or the teasing mid-point breakdown that for a solitary second has you thinking you've got off lightly, until those big old crushing kicks return for round number two, staring you down for another three long minutes. Doof Doof Doof Doof. We love it.

The man behind the monster, Joel Mull is basically a fucking lethal boy. And take it from us, he DJs just as rudely as he produces. The Wind It Up E.P, on which Geodesi appears as track 2, is an essential purchase for closet submissive who like being fucked with at loud volumes. Dance, monkey, dance! Yes master…

The Wind It Up EP is out on 1st September via Mood Records. Pre-order it here
