Last night, Mark Jackson said some things about Stephen Curry that were easily twisted by nearly everyone who heard them. During the Cavs-Warriors game, Mark Jackson noted that, while a tremendous player, it's possible that Steph Curry was actually bad for basketball. It takes a little bit to follow, and certainly if you didn't hear the full context of the quote it sounds insane, but, assuming he is not just making up anecdotal evidence, it is at least sort of defensible.

According to Jackson, Curry is so good at making what he does look effortless that younger players are just trying to do what he does without doing any of the work. Basically, Mark Jackson thinks Curry has spawned a generation of chuckers. And these chuckers have in turn ignored all the other ways Curry is a transcendent player.

Which, maybe that's true! I don't know, I haven't been to many high school games recently. But it seems plausible that there has been a spike of chucking since Steph rose to prominence. He does make it looks so damned easy, after all. Surely coaches would soon realize that these chuckers are actually bad at basketball though, so it seems like maybe not such a big deal? Also, Kobe Bryant is still out there. Anyway, people have taken this to be a criticism of Steph Curry the player, which it clearly is not.

It's easy to understand why people would jump on Jackson. As the former coach of Curry and the Warriors who was run out of town before they turned into Champions, he certainly would have a reason to grind an axe. This is especially so when his point is kind of nuanced and not quite perfectly described. So, not many people took the time to read and rationally react to this theory and it sort of became a Thing, the way these things do on the internet.

But at least one group of heroes rushed to his defense: multi-platinum, Grammy nominated (!!!) alt-rock band from San Jose Cali, Smashmouth.

@MarkJackson13 We understand what you mean. It's a compliment to Steph, like MJ changed the game and more players focused on fancy dunks.

The analogy is not important, what is important is that Smashmouth have come to the defense of this media man who begs to differ, essentially saying all these haters are looking kinda dumb with their fingers and their thumbs in the shape of an "L" on their foreheads.
