Mets Pitcher Hits Double in First MLB At-Bat, Old Guy Who Might be His Grandfather Loves It

Mets pitcher Steven Matz made his first career start today and also got his first career hit. His whole family, including his grandpa (we think) saw it, too.

Mets pitcher Steven Matz is making his Major League debut today at Citi Field. He's a local kid who played high school ball at Ward Melville High School in Suffolk County, Long Island, so it wasn't that far of a trip for the family to catch his first game. While it might be a little overcast, they are getting quite a show: Matz smoked a double to centerfield—over Billy Hamilton's head, no less—for his first career hit and drove in two runs to give himself a 2-1 lead.

His mom and dad—Ron and Lori—were obviously excited, but look at the old guy on the right of the screen up top. We're assuming he's Matz's grandfather or great uncle or something but, man, he is so pumped! He's just out there watching his progeny rake and couldn't be any happier. I love this guy, and even if he is in no way related to the family, he's still an old dude out there loving life more than anyone else.
