Wayne Rooney's Record-Breaking 250th Goal for Manchester United Couldn't Have Been Prettier

It's hard to imagine a more spectacular way to beat out Sir Bobby Charlton's record—reaching a clean 250 on a clean-ass shot.

Regardless of where you think Wayne Rooney should be—on the bench or the pitch—the 31-year-old surely belongs in the hallowed halls of Manchester United legends. While that statement rings dully like a worn cliche, it's actually quantifiable right now. The dude has broken a 250 all-time goal record with the club. And it couldn't have looked better.

In stoppage time while trailing Stoke City 0-1, Rooney was given a free kick outside of the box from quite the difficult angle. Though he had the opportunity to sail it on in to the taller Ibrahimovic's of the bunch for a header, he instead went for net. And boy, did it curl beautifully into the perfect corner. It's hard to imagine a more spectacular way to beat out Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time goal-scoring record of 249—reaching a clean 250 on a clean-ass shot. (Though it could have ended in something besides a draw….) Knighthood, anyone?
