Aston Villa Win on Last-Second Penalty Given Up by West Brom Keeper

Aston Villa pick up a huge win after West Brom's keeper gave up a penalty in the final seconds of stoppage time.

Tim Sherwood is checking his pulse because he still has a pulse to check. Coming into today's match against West Brom, and in danger of being relegated, Aston Villa had lost their previous seven matches and had not won in 13 matches. Knotted up at 1-1, with time running out, it looked like it was going to be 14, until Villa really started to pressure keeper Ben Foster, who was spilling the ball all over the place. In one final act of desperation with about 30 seconds left in stoppage time, Foster went lunging for a loose ball and yet again, it escaped him. In the process he slammed into Matthew Lowton and gave up a penalty.

The penalty kick went to Christian Benteke and this little stutter step was all he needed to completely foul up Foster and tap in the game-winner.

The win pulled Villa out of the relegation zone, giving them 25 points, and put them three points clear of the next club, Queens Park Rangers.
