For those in the know, Perugian producer, remixer, and DJ, Nicholas, is up there with Madonna, Prince and Abs from 5ive in the "artists so peerless that they don't even need to bother with a surname" category. For the last five years or so, he's been responsible for some of the juiciest house reworkings, disco deconstructions and funk re-freshers around. He's remixed big chunks of the Nu Groove back catalogue, dropped his own releases on the likes of 4 Lux, Home Taping is Killing Music and 20:20 Vision, and released one of the rare full length artist LPs that's worth listening to, Still Playing House. Basically, any record with Nicholas' name stamped on it is an essential purchase.As a DJ, he's as comfortable with the decadent highs of peak-time disco as he is with the chugging, sparse bass'n'thud of big room house so when he pinged us a line from Perugia about the possibility of sending a mix our way we knew we were in for a treat. Reality rarely lives up to fantasy in this life, but occasionally, just occasionally, you get lucky and the stars align and for a minute — or 75 in this case — and you dare to dream again.
