Timberwolves Coach and President Flip Saunders Passes Away at 60

Saunders had been battling Hodgkins lymphoma.

Flip Saunders—the man who ran the Minnesota Timberwolves from the front office to the bench—died today after suffering a bout with Hodgkins lymphoma. He was 60 years old.

In August, the Timberwolves made an announcement that Saunders was battling with cancer, and on October 24, announced that he was taking leave, due to complications with his chemotherapy.

"I just think his illness, I mean, it's serious," Taylor told to the Star-Tribune. "At this point, if he came back I still think he'd have a hard time to recover all his energy and all that because he has been in the hospital for a long time."

Former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell is acting as interim coach for the season. The Timberwolves canceled their practice today.
