- Barry Zito is looking at you. Barry Zito is looking at you with his warm eyes and saying everything you've ever needed to hear without uttering a sound. His hair hangs in the wind, swaying with the breeze like the calmest ship in the calmest port. You are safe, here, it whispers, and of course you know it is true. Impossibly your eyes meet and you have the most meaningful conversation of your life, in the time it takes to blink. What if I fail? His response is imperceptible but incontrovertible. A flash from his eyes: I am here. I will always be here. You feel a sudden warmth in your chest, like someone is massaging your heart back to life. Or perhaps right now is the moment your heart started and life began. A force so powerful and pure fills your body so quickly that it startles you, but you are awake for the first time in your life. You are quite possibly the only person who has ever truly been awake. You are no longer beholden to your senses, they are beholden to you. You can taste the color of the rising sun, and now you understand why Barry Zito is looking at you. He is welcoming you to dream with your eyes wide open.
