Listen to a Soundtrack Composed By Wisconsin Punks Tenement

The short film 'Proxy' charts the forging of a young relationship.

Proxy is a short film about Russ, a young guy who helps his parents manage their motel. When a mother and daughter check in, Russ is intrigued even when the young woman displays signs of severe illness. At first he unsure how to interact with her, but once her mother leaves her side, he attempts to forge a friendship.

The film's director Eric Schuman is a fan of Wisconsin punks Tenement and asked the band's Amos Pitsch to create the score. Pitsch assembled the recent extended Tenement lineup including Matt Stranger on saxophone and percussion, Julia Blair on viola, violin, cello, and percussion, and of course Jesse Ponkamo and Eric Mayer, to create the music.

"The difficult thing about scoring a film is the timing of the cues, the delicate moods that you must convey, and the fact that you can't get too wrapped up in your own emotions," Amos explained to us via email.

"You must channel the emotions of the dramatic feeling of the film. It's a difficult thing, because your own intuitions might tell you to do one thing while composing a piece of music, but you gotta rope your intuitions in and conform to the feeling of the particular part of the film you're writing for. It was really a process of re-learning how to write music, which is something I haven't had to do in many, many years."

Released on small Washington DC label Malokul, the soundtrack is limited to 300 copies.
