Beloved late-night host-turned-beard enthusiast David Letterman will make his return to TV for a new talk show on Netflix, Variety reports.
The show's first season will consist of six hour-long episodes that will give the former Late Show star a chance to do in-depth, longform interviews as well as "in-the-field segments expressing his curiosity and humor," according to a press release.
Filming is expected to begin this fall with a premiere date slated for 2018. There's no word yet on who will be featured on the series, but Netflix promises "extraordinary people," so there's that.
"I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix," Letterman said in regard to the show announcement. "Here's what I have learned, if you retire to spend more time with your family, check with your family first. Thanks for watching, drive safely."
Letterman will join the streaming giant's growing roster of talk shows, which includes Chelsea Handler's Chelsea and Bill Nye Saves the World, which was recently picked up for a second season.
"Just meeting David Letterman was a thrill; imagine how exciting it is for me to announce that we will be working together," Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, said. "David Letterman is a true television icon, and I can't wait to see him out in the wild, out from behind the desk, and interviewing the people he finds most interesting. We'll have to see if he keeps the beard."
