Slater's 'Back to the Floor' EP is all about 2-stepping, not fist-pumping.

"The whole 'put your hands up' shit is cool but it's kinda played out for me personally," says AC in a recent interview. "I want to focus more on the music and how it makes the individual feel." Brooklyn bassline bad boy just dropped a free, five-track EP to inaugurate the new free-release label, Nest, brought to you by Skrillie and the rest of the folks at Nest HQ. Slater's not the only one who's turning down for 2014—Porter Robinson, Hardwell, Avicii, and most recently, Deadmau5 have all expressed a need to switch up their sound and do something deeper than the standard big-room fare. Still, Back to the Floor keeps garage-inflected hi-hats swinging and never neglects to put a donk on it, with big, bold, basslines that will have you 2-stepping rather than fist-pumping. "It's okay to zone out and get lost in the music," Slater says of the new EP, and we can only hope that the rest of the Skrillfam will keep it weird for us on their new label.
