Oklahoma State Basketball Player Dies After Collapsing During Team Workout

Tyrek Coger, 21, had recently transferred from Cape Fear Community College in North Carolina, and started his first month with OSU.

Oklahoma State's recent transfer Tyrek Coger, 21, died last night after collapsing during a workout with the men's basketball team, OSU announced. Coger last played at Cape Fear Community College in North Carolina, and had just started his first month with the OSU Cowboys.

"Tyrek was excited to be at Oklahoma State and had such passion for the game and was looking forward to being an OSU Cowboy," OSU's head coach Brad Underwood said. "Losing a member of the team is like losing a member of the family. But we know our loss pales in comparison to the pain his family is going through."

As of now, the cause of Coger's death is unknown. During his senior year in high school, Coger underwent surgery after doctors discovered that he had fluid on the brain and was at risk of seizures. Shortly after Coger's surgery, his grandfather died in post-surgery after being diagnosed with a similar condition, including a blood clot. After decomitting from Missouri, Coger attended Cape Fear Community College so that he could be closer to his family.
