CHAOS AND HORROR at the NME Awards, as Bring Me The Horizon Spill Coldplay's Drinks

People were less than impressed with the behaviour displayed by a guitar band at an awards ceremony where the prize is literally a bronze hand giving the middle finger.

CHAOS! HORROR! ANARCHY! And other things not typically associated with the NME Awards, which took place last night, as troublesome rockers with tattoos and stuff, Bring Me The Horizon, upset everybody with their performance of "Happy Song".

Before we get into the details, let's back up a little to November, 2015. When Coldplay revealed the artwork for their album A Head Full of Dreams, featuring a geometric pattern consisting of overlapping circles – also called 'Flower of Life' – a lot of Bring Me The Horizon fans were outraged that it looked kinda similar to the band's 2013 album Sempiternal, which features the same pattern. Frontman Oli Sykes addressed the controversy, as we reported at the time, going so far as to say Chris Martin and company were “Jackin our steez.” It was a tremendous beef that made Drake and Meek Mill look like two guinea pigs in a scuffle.

With that in mind, BMTH and Coldplay were both present at the NME Awards last night to pick up the Innovation Award and the Godlike Genius Award respectively. BMTH kept their speech to a minimum, saying: "We're not one for making words. Thanks NME," before taking to the stage to perform "Happy Song". Now, get ready, because we're about to get into the shocking stuff.

During the breakdown, Sykes stood on Coldplay's table, knocking over champagne flutes, tinnies of Red Stripe and Chris Martin's small collection of Enid Blyton novels all over the place and sending various members of the band diving for cover, diving for their lives! Eventually, it gave way beneath him and he stumbled onto another table next to national treasure Kylie Minogue. The horror!

Best performance I've seen at the NME awards in a long time. Well done Bring Me The Horizon! #fuckcoldplay pic.twitter.com/AYNQODZmKJ

Some people enjoyed it, as you can see in the tweet above and the cheers of approval in the video below. Others, however, were less than impressed with the behaviour. "The stunt was really alarming and caused organisers havoc," one guest told the Metro newspaper. "That vid of the BMTH guy destroying everything on Coldplay's table feels so violent tho like seriously wtf dude?!?!" someone tweeted. "So Bring me the Horizon smashed up Coldplay's table at NME. Absolute fucking idiots," tweeted another.

Seems like a whole lot of outrage for a performance at an alternative music event whose statue is literally a bronze hand giving the middle finger. To be fair, it's probably the most "rock" thing that's ever happened at the NME awards since the 70s. Then again, if someone spilled my Red Stripe as I was minding my own business, just trying to enjoy myself of an evening, I would probably be livid.
