Ah, family. Every so often they somehow remind us how impactful sports can be, yet how little they mean in the big picture—all at the same time.

Edmonton forward Patrick Maroon was back playing in his hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, on Monday night and had his family in attendance for the Oilers' 3-2 overtime victory over the Blues. Maroon tied the game late in the third period with his ninth goal of the season, but to his young son Anthony, it was definitely the winner.

Sporting a slightly oversized Oilers jersey and an even bigger smile, Anthony went crazy when his dad tipped in the game-tying goal with under six minutes left in the third period. Having his son in the stands as he scored a rare goal in his hometown was obviously special, and a little overwhelming, for Maroon.

"It's pretty cool, pretty emotional. I don't get to see him as much. It's pretty special." Maroon said of his son's presence in the crowd while (almost) holding back tears during a postgame interview.

In a rare moment of an athlete abandoning the cliches and letting his guard down, this interview is one of the most real, honest and raw postgame clips we've seen in a long time.

The gritty winger, listed at 6'3" and 230 pounds, is not used to losing many physical battles on the ice. He lost his shit after this one, though, and rightfully so—we did, too.
