Ichiro Bestows Managerial Job on Dan Jennings With Official Tie Ceremony

Ichiro confirms Dan Jenning's hiring with a ritualistic bestowing of the Miami Marlins necktie. You see, Jennings used to be a suit.

On Sunday, after getting swept and nearly no-hit by the Atlanta Braves, the Marlins fired manager Mike Redmond and said an announcement on the new manager would be forthcoming. On Monday, the Marlins announced general manager Dan Jennings would be taking over the managerial duties. It was an odd move, and the front office-to-dugout transition is fairly rare in baseball, but these are the Marlins so the routine is also the abnormal.

Monday night's game against the Diamondbacks would be Jennings's first game as manager, but a little known and archaic rule in Major League Baseball stipulates that a manager hired directly from the front office is not officially hired and installed in power until Ichiro performs the Ceremonial Bestowing of Team Logoed Necktie in the dugout before the game. It's like a knighting, but for baseball.

Ichiro performed his duties last night in the home dugout before the game at Marlins Park and, as you can see, Jennings is overcome with joy and pride at longer being just a suit.

Arizona beat Miami 3-2.
