NFL Waiver Wire Workout: Week 11

It's another milquetoast week for waivers, but fantasy football expert Christopher Harris sees a few free-agent adds worth taking a shot at.

For fantasy football advice based on film review every single weekday from now until 2017, listen to the Harris Football Podcast at www.HarrisFootball.com, which won the Fantasy Sports Writers Association podcast of the year award for 2015.

Because league formats vary, one size doesn't fit all when it comes to your waiver wire. That's why I break possible free agent adds into three categories, all of whom are available in fewer than one-third of Yahoo! leagues. Follow me on Twitter for the latest on possible additions to your fantasy roster.

Addable in All Leagues

Kenneth Dixon, RB, BAL (owned in 19% of Yahoo! leagues). Remember, my rule for this column is I only nominate players who are owned in fewer than one-third of Yahoo leagues, which means if someone like C.J. Prosise (35% owned), Robert Kelley (48% owned), or Dion Lewis (58% owned) is available, I'd scoop them up first in an otherwise milquetoast week for waivers. And of the players who meet my prerequisite, James Starks is my No. 1 add for the week—but Dixon is No. 2.

Dixon didn't blow the doors off the Cleveland Browns last Thursday, but he had similar production to Terrance West (80 scrimmage yards compared to 77 for West) in 11 fewer touches. More important, he obviously popped on film more than West typically does. The Baltimore Ravens are somehow still division leaders, so maybe they aren't looking to change anything dramatically, but I believe Dixon will prove worthy of a bigger workload eventually.

Cameron Meredith, WR, CHI (33% owned). Alshon Jeffery was suspended for a substance violation on Monday, meaning he'll miss the Chicago Bears' next four games and be eligible for reinstatement in Week 15. In the meantime, Jay Cutler's gotta throw to someone. Meredith is the last big man standing; he caught a halftime Hail Mary Sunday but was otherwise silent. He does, however, have a couple hundred-yard games this year. The volume should be there over the next month.

What to do with Jeremy Langford? Photo by Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

Jeremy Langford, RB, CHI (26% owned). I'm mentioning Langford here because I don't know what else to do with him. As of this writing, Jordan Howard's injury situation is unclear: John Fox told reporters that Howard suffered an ankle or Achilles' injury Sunday against Tampa, but then Howard subsequently told reporters he's OK, so I don't know what to believe.

If Howard is out for any great length of time, Langford would bounce ahead of Dixon and probably Starks to become my No. 1 waiver add of the week (again, among players owned in one-third of Yahoo leagues or fewer). But if Howard is fine, Langford isn't even a handcuff. Stay tuned!

Giants Defense (12% owned). Speaking of the Bears… the New York Giants host Chicago Week 11 and Cutler has been in a giving mood. Sunday in Tampa, the Bears QB was awful, throwing two picks, losing a fumble for a safety, and allowing four sacks. The Giants aren't good on defense—that's why they're only owned in 12 percent of leagues!—but versus Cutler I'd take a chance on them.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still adds: James Starks, RB, GB (28%); Austin Hooper, TE, ATL (7%).

Speculative Adds

Eddie Royal, WR, CHI (14% owned). I mentioned that Jeffery is out for a month, and Royal chose Week 10 to return from a two-game absence. He only saw two targets Sunday, but that number will increase for however long he can stay off the injury list.

Kerley with the catch. Photo by Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Jeremy Kerley, WR, SF (9% owned). Colin Kaepernick looked like a competent midrange thrower in Arizona Sunday, while Kerley made one incredibly acrobatic catch on the sideline and also scored a wide-open touchdown in the back of the end zone. Whatever fantasy goodness accrues for the Niner receivers will probably rotate among Kerley, Torrey Smith, and Quinton Patton, but if I was taking a shot I'd go Kerley.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still speculative adds: Colin Kaepernick, QB, SF (12%); Alfred Morris, RB, DAL (13%); Chris Thompson, RB, WAS (29%); Damien Williams, RB, MIA (3%); Alfred Blue, RB, HOU (3%); Mike Gillislee, RB, BUF (27%); Paul Perkins, RB, NYG (24%); Kapri Bibbs, RB, DEN (30%); Dwayne Washington, RB, DET (2%); Andre Ellington, RB, ARI (3%); Ka'Deem Carey, RB, CHI (1%); Robert Woods, WR, BUF (16%); Tyreek Hill, WR, KC (16%); Breshad Perriman, WR, BAL (2%); Anquan Boldin, WR, DET (23%); Kendall Wright, WR, TEN (13%); Pierre Garcon, WR, WAS (15%); C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, HOU (21%); Ladarius Green, TE, PIT (10%); Dwayne Allen, TE, IND (28%); Vernon Davis, TE, WAS (6%); Hunter Henry, TE, SD (21%).

Deep-League Adds

Fitzgerald Toussaint, RB, PIT (1% owned). DeAngelo Williams needed a knee scope last week, which will probably knock him out for at least a month—there goes Le'Veon Bell's clean handcuff. I'm not sure I'd trust Toussaint with the lead gig if Bell got hurt, but in a deeper league you might not have a choice.

Smallwood has Philly's trust for now. Photo by James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

Wendell Smallwood, RB, PHI (2% owned). Despite the fact that Ryan Mathews reemerged as Philly's lead back in a big Week 10 win against the Atlanta Falcons, it was Smallwood who was on the field when the Eagles needed a first down to ice the game. He's not a standard-league option, but despite a big fumble against the Cowboys in Week 8, the rookie Smallwood is someone his coaches trust.

Vance McDonald, TE, SF (8% owned). His volume tends to be low and his good plays tend to come on scramble drills, but you can't deny that McDonald has been a pretty consistent possession target for Kaepernick, who sure does like to check down.

Akeem Hunt, RB, HOU (0% owned). Hunt came off the practice squad this week and wound up with eight carries for 52 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars, showing nice quicks to the hole. He's third string behind Lamar Miller and Alfred Blue, but he showed flashes in 2015, too, so remember the name.

Players listed in previous weeks who are still addable in deep leagues: DeAndre Washington, RB, OAK (14%); Jalen Richard, RB, OAK (11%); Fozzy Whittaker, RB, CAR (4%); Kenneth Farrow, RB, SD (0%); Kenny Stills, WR, MIA (8%); Adam Thielen, WR, MIN (4%); Adam Humphries, WR, TB (27%); Seth Roberts, WR, OAK (2%); Dontrelle Inman, WR, SD (7%); Robby Anderson, WR, NYJ (0%); Taylor Gabriel, WR, ATL (2%); Brian Quick, WR, LA (8%); Eli Rogers, WR, PIT (10%); Marqise Lee, WR, JAC (5%).
