Cam Newton Undergoing Concussion Protocol After Hit During Two Point Conversion

Cam Newton is the quarterback who can do it all—a threat on the rush almost as much as the pass—but even Cam has his limitations.

During a two-point conversion against the Atlanta Falcons today, Cam Newton tried for the extra-extra point, started to let up on his run, thinking he was home free, but Falcons linebacker Deion Jones had other designs on the play. Jones went in for the hit, and it wasn't quite helmet-to-helmet because he was not a defenseless player.

By all definitions, Cam shouldn't have let up on his pace, but now he's in the locker room and backup QB Derek Anderson is in right now. Also of note: Anderson passed to third string QB Joe Webb, who is now playing wideout—crazy times.

If Cam doesn't pass protocol, he would be out for next week.

UPDATE:

According to the Charlotte Observer, Newton has indeed suffered a concussion, and will be ruled out for next week.
