During Tyler Glasnow's MLB Debut, His Dad Muffed a Foul Ball While Being Interviewed

Looks like Pirates rookie pitcher Tyler Glasnow's dad was not the best battery mate.

Highly-touted Pirates rookie pitcher Tyler Glasnow made his first career start today in St. Louis. As he sat back in the dugout as his team batted, the Pittsburgh broadcast crew chatted with his folks in the stands about the experience of watching their son pitch in his Major League debut. It was the top of the third inning and John Jaso was up at bat looking at a 1-2 pitch. He stayed alive and fouled it off and it went right to the spot where the Glasnows were sitting.

It pinged off at least one fan before Glasnow's father Greg—in a white Pirates polo shirt and black Pirates cap—had it in his hands, and then Zack Hample came out of nowhere, punched him in the face and stole it dropped it, losing it forever. He was really disappointed with himself and completely owned up to it, like a pro, telling Adam Berry of MLB.com, "I don't want to make any excuses. I flubbed the catch."

It would have been a cool memento from his son's first game but, alas, it was not meant to be. Nor was the win for Glasnow. He pitched 5 1/3 and gave up four runs in a 5-1 loss to the Cardinals. I guess Greg will just have to be content with being the father of a Major League pitcher who has drawn comparisons to Randy Johnson.
