George W. Bush Reveals "The Mob" Shirt to Delight of SMU Student Section

George W. Bush is a big SMU fan, and now he's officially a member of the student section known as The Mob.

Americans love when their presidents show love for sports, frequently regardless of political leanings or actions. Ronald Reagan called Cubs games on the radio reading from a ticker. Arkansas native Bill Clinton loved him some 40 Minutes of Hell. Everyone held their breath when George W. Bush threw out the first pitch of the World Series at Yankee Stadium after 9/11. Barack Obama wore a dingy, ill-fitting White Sox cap no matter where he might have thrown a ceremonial first pitch.

Going back to POTUS No. 43: Bush, of course, has other sports bona fides. His parents were season-ticket holders with the Astros. Bush himself used to be owner of the Texas Rangers, and has publicly lamented the Sammy Sosa trade. He's also a big fan of the sports teams at SMU, where his wife, Laura, went to school. Bush has attended his share of SMU basketball games, and he was in the crowd Sunday for a big victory against Cincinnati, which came in ranked No. 11.

"A new member of the mob," eh? Skull and Bones, we all knew about. But the Dallas mob? Does Oliver Stone know? SMU, which was prohibited from postseason play a year ago because of NCAA rules violations, is ranked No. 19 after former coach Larry Brown resurrected the program.

All kidding aside, or some kidding aside, it's just funny to see a former president remove his jacket, stick out his chest, and proclaim his love for the Mustangs. That's my Bush! Foibles and failures of his administration be damned. Or just ignored for a moment. Iran-Contra, Iran-Shmontra—Reagan filled in for Harry Caray. Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton? Bring me Scotty Thurman and Corliss Williamson. Weapons of Mass Destruction go missing? No worries, The Mob has your back.

Would the current president ever wear a New Jersey Generals T-shirt? Unlikely. And sad!
