Lock Up Your Mums: Lee Ryan's Going on 'Eastenders'

The ex-Blue member will appear for a short stint this spring.

Which one out of early 2000s UK boyband Blue did you fancy? Objectively, it is clear that Simon Webbe is the most handsome of the group, but my personal preference all those years ago was for the chiselled Duncan James. Once when I was little, my mom took me to see Blue #live #in #concert, and I bought a little poster of him which I later stuck by my bed. Sometimes, I kissed it before I went to sleep. Maybe Duncan James was responsible for the early part of my sexual awakening. Oh god.  Moving on, all of this is to say: my love of Duncan had me in the minority at primary school. There, Twitter philosopher Lee Ryan was the heartthrob of choice, and with his blonde hair, blue eyes and sparkling falsetto, it's easy to see why. But in the years since Lee has become the last and final Blue member to file for bankruptcy and faded from pop stardom, his teen idol status has been lost too – and between a stint on Celebrity Big Brother and representing the UK in Eurovision with the rest of Blue in a poorly-advised reunion, he's now firmly one for the mums.  Which means that his next move – to the streets of Eastenders' Albert Square – could actually be the most genius thing he's ever done, and Duncan, who's currently starring in Hollyoaks, must be quaking in his boots. Digital Spy reports that Lee will make his debut this spring, as a "new badboy" called 'Woody' Woodward. So far he's signed on for a short stint on the show (though for your mum's sake let's hope it's longer), and said, in his earnest Lee Ryan way, "Woody is the best role I could have wished to play. He's a brilliant character, and it's clear he's been leading a full and colourful life."  As a lifelong soaps fan, I for one am extremely excited to see Lee in the show, and am praying to God that he has many, many scenes alongside HRH Danny Dyer.  Follow Lauren on Twitter.
