Obama Almost Certainly Picked the Panthers to Win the Super Bowl

The interview was awkward as hell, but at least we know who Obama might be pulling for.

Man, this was an awkward interview. CBS's Gale King sat down with President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama to do a quick little pre-game chat about their plans for their last Super Bowl at the White House. The whole thing was live, and it was just plain weird. But if there's any information we can derive from the nonsense, it's that it seems like President Obama is predicting the Panthers will take the Vince Lombardi trophy home.

King stayed on Super Bowl topic at first, getting some great answers about how Michelle barbecued all day, how her mom hangs out in some kind of "champagne room" to watch the game while the die hards have their own room, and the kids have theirs. But then the questions started meandering to what seemed like a grab bag of questions King's been wanting to ask the Obamas for the past 8 years.

King held up a photo of them at Obama's first inaugural ball and asked them to describe what they were thinking in one word. Sure, a weird, anachronistic. Fine. Then she made them play some kind of dating parlor game, where they literally had to finish King's sentences. Obama loves to hold Michelle's hand. Sure, whatever. Then King basically asked Michelle if she wanted to run for president some day, to which Michelle rightfully gave her a bit of side eye. And then, finally—after mad shenanigans—King made it back to football.

King handed Obama a piece of paper for him to write his Super Bowl predictions on, which King said CBS would reveal the next day. But the camera angles were revealing, as they showed a piece of paper with each team's logos—from left to right: Panthers and Broncos—with two columns underneath, presumably to write the scoreline. It's not fully clear how King wanted Obama to mark the paper, but it's clear as day that the man was jotting down underneath the left (Panthers) column.

All that's left now is to find out how sharp he was on guessing the scoreline.
