Texans Coach Bill O'Brien Goes Apeshit on Special Teams Coordinator

Bill O'Brien was so pissed off at special teams coordinator Larry Izzo that he needed to be restrained by several members of his team.

It's always fun to see an NFL head coach lose his mind on the sideline because, well, it just is. These guys are supposed to be paragons of discipline and leadership, and other such nonsense, but when somebody else messes up, they just can't handle it. And it's fun for us!

Take, for example, Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien, who went ape shit at his special teams staff Sunday, just before the start of the second half. The first half ended with Houston having to call a timeout before the Lions kicked off after a field goal because special teams coordinator Larry Izzo only had ten men on the field.

Mistakes happen, though, right? It's the end of the half, there's not enough time left to make any real use of the timeout, and you don't get to hang on to them anyway. Well none of that matters on O'Brien's watch! He has to be restrained by more than one Texans employee, or else—what—there would have been a fist fight on the sidelines?

This is with the Texans leading the Lions 14-3 by the way.

Tiki Barber noted on the broadcast, "he's a demanding guy." Apparently so. We probably should demand more from our coaches so that they show a little more chill when something goes awry, afoul or askew. Then again, O'Brien's blowup was a fun reminder of the time Buddy Ryan and Kevin Gilbride of the Houston Oilers (moment of silence) came to blows on the sideline because of a disagreement in 1993. "A totally classless act," as Mike Patrick put it? Yes, but also fun for us!

Of course, when asked by the media what his deal was, Coach O'Brien feigned ignorance, rather than making himself accountable.

"I don't know what you guys are talking about," O'Brien said. "No idea."

But there's video, came a reply.

"I don't remember that one bit," O'Brien insisted.

Here is a reminder, coach. It went on long enough that it didn't fit into one GIF:
