Seahawks Punter Faceplants on Busted Play, Questionable to Return with a Nose Injury

The punter is questionable with a nose injury.

Seahawks punter Jon Ryan fielded a low snap, and then couldn't get off the punt in time, so he had to eat the ball and try to pick up the first down with his feet. He picked up a decent chunk of yardage but when he approached a couple of defenders, he tried to hurdle them. It…did not work. He wound up somersaulting over the pile of players and landed right on his face.

It looked funny, in the way that punters doing virtually anything but punting looks funny, but apparently Ryan got dinged up a bit and is now questionable with a nose injury. He was back out there later speaking with Pete Carroll and punting into a net, so he may be back. We're not here to pass judgment on the medical issues individual players face—maybe he can't see clearly, kind of important when receiving a long snap—but we'll just say his teammates will probably have a hearty laugh when they see the punter is out with an injured nose.
