The Yok and Sheryo Will Be Terrorizing Downtown LA This Weekend

Sheryo paints pizza slices that look like friendly teenage ratfink scumbags with hamburger eyes. The Yok paints wise-faced weed puffing deities that are part anime and part Jim Henson. Their art will be on display this weekend at Superchief Gallery LA.

If you've been walking around Downtown LA these past few weeks, you may have seen a box truck speed past you covered in paint or the matching 15-passenger van that came speeding behind it. Well, in case you didn't realize it, it's art—art by artists Sheryo and the Yok—and it will be on display this weekend at Superchief Gallery LA.

You see, Superchief Gallery (our favorite art-world stoners) have the Yok and Sheryo in residency preparing for their opening this Saturday—and since hopping off a plane from New York, they've painted everything that's been placed in front of them, including, but not limited to, the front of the gallery itself, a hundred-foot wall in the gallery parking lot, two massive indoor murals, the gallery box truck, the gallery landlord's van, five resin sculptures they hand-made in Indonesia, and a bunch of large-scale woodcuts hanging from the ceiling.

FYI, Sheryo paints pizza slices that look like friendly teenage ratfink scumbags with hamburger eyes, walking on legs like a California raisin wearing hightop sneakers. The Yok paints wise-faced weed-puffing deities that are part anime and part Jim Henson.

So if your body is willing, able, and in the Los Angeles area, we not only recommend going but we implore you to get their early because there will be cheap tattoos (which you can pick out from a flash sheet by the Yok and Sheryo themselves) and a shitload of free beer. Free beer! Go!

Sheryo and The Yok's NASTY GORENG LA opening party is on Saturday, November 8, from 6–10 PM. After that, the exhibition will run until November 23 and can only be viewed by appointment only. So yeah, email them if you have any questions.
