STYLE RIDER: Son Lux Love to Look Goth and Light Candles

Digital audio work stations, and enough headphone jacks for the whole crew.

Up until last year, Son Lux was the solo project of Ryan Lott. With Son Lux’s album release last summer Bones, he made the one-man act a trio with the help of Ian Chang and Rafiq Bhatia. Son Lux’s music has always been genre fluid - Lott is a classically trained pianist and composer. In Son Lux’s music, you’ll find everything from hip-hop to electronica, pop and post-rock. Those classical undertones definitely float through Son Lux’s songs. Because Lott has written scores, songs for TV spots and collaborated with a ton of other artists, Son Lux’s music often feels like a blank canvas with paint being splattered all over it. It’s something that makes the band’s music quite beautiful.

Since Son Lux will be hitting the road later this year, we wanted to get a sense of what their favorite fashionable things have been so far. A little bit goth, minimalist and practical, Ryan, Ian and Rafiq dish on their necessities for on the road below.

GLASSES AND SHADES

Glasses > Contact lenses. Sunglasses > squinting in the sun.

BLACK WARDROBE

All black everything everyday.

DIGITAL STUDIO

Being on tour is exhausting but it can also be very inspiring, so we’re always tinkering with new music on tour. This is Ryan’s super compact mobile studio.

CANDLES

Rafiq lights this candle when he’s getting in the zone and working on music.

CHANGE POUCH

This little change pouch really comes in handy when touring in Europe. It's good to keep track of those €1 and €2 coins.

HEADPHONE SPLITTER

5 way headphone splitter for listening to music together while gazing into each others’ eyes. It’s our version of a silent disco.
