We Are All Partying Apes in Wiwek’s New Singles, “Faka G” and “Double Dribble (ft. Keno)”

When you listen to a "Jungle Terror" track you realize that further definition of the genre is entirely unnecessary: the aggressive drums and a rollercoaster of synths peppered with tribal instrumentation and animal noises speak for themselves. That's exactly what Dutch producer, Skrillex collaborator, and OWSLA signee Wiwek delivers in two new singles, available today, lifted straight from the dancefloor—he did invent the genre, after all. The singles, "Faka G" (slang for "What's up" in Dutch/Surinamese) and "Double Dribble (ft. Keno)" follow Wiwek's March 2016 release of his 18-track "The Free and Rebellious Jungle Terror Mix," in which Wiwek established his status as master of the sound.

To double down on the whole jungle thing, the 90's videogame-esque videos that accompany the new tracks introduce a host of beastly animated characters fans can expect to see in show visuals and videos to come. A group of leering, head-banging crocodiles standing on two legs rock out in "Faka G," and a militaristic gorilla drumline makes appearances in both videos. In "Double Dribble," Wiwek himself embodies a DJ ape playing for a crowd of turnt monkeys in front of the green jungle canopy.

"Been playing these tunes in my sets for a while now," said Wiwek in an email to THUMP. "People kept asking me for it so I went in the studio to properly finish them and happy to finally give it out!"

The internet thanks you, Wiwek.

"Faka G" and "Double Dribble (ft. Keno)" are available on YouTube or as free downloads with a follow on Wiwek's Spotify profile or his "Wiwek in the Jungle" playlist.
