According to the Independent, the Metropolitan police will not be allowed to keep the names of the officers who investigated fabric nightclub undercover a secret. Disguised as clubgoers, the police officers produced a report that played a large role in the club's closure.

In a request sent to district judge Robin McPhee, the Metropolitan police argued that a loss of anonymity would put the officers' safety at risk.

"If I had a power to withhold names and serial numbers of officers it would be wrong of me to exercise that power," the judge said. "I find no real safety implications and no real evidence that they will not attend court to give evidence."

Last month, the Independent revealed documents that suggested fabric's closure was due in part to a long-term plan developed by the Islington council. Fabric's appeal hearing will take place November 28. In September, we detailed how the fight for UK nightlife starts now.
