Rangers Defenseman Unloads on New York Post Writer in Profanity-Laced Tirade

There is not even any love to lose between Dan Boyle and Larry Brooks.

New York Rangers defenseman Dan Boyle, who was a healthy scratch in Saturday's elimination game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, did not take the loss very well. In what was likely Boyle's final appearance as a Ranger, he unloaded on Larry Brooks, a veteran writer for the New York Post—who is about as warm and fuzzy in his prose as Boyle is in person here—with a string of expletives at the Rangers practice facility in Tarrytown today.

Brooks has been hard on the team in general, as well as Boyle specifically, and Boyle returned the favor and then some. The video picks up mid-fight, after Boyle said something…uncomplimentary.

Brooks: "Well, the feeling's mutual."

Boyle: "Perfect. Perfect. I want you out of here. Nobody likes you. Nobody respects you. Just so you know."

Brooks: "OK."

Boyle: "At least I'm leaving here with the respect of my teammates, instead of fucking someone like you, who tries to bury somebody. That's all you do….It's not a critique, but I'm just telling you I don't want you here. I have no respect for you. I want you to get the fuck out."

Brooks: "I don't care what you think."

Boyle: "I can fucking tell you to get the fuck out if I want to!"

Brooks: "You can, but I don't have to listen to you."

Boyle: "Yeah, you do! [looking at someone off camera ] I want him out. And that other fucking clown, Brett, or whatever the fuck his name is. Where's he at? Everyone else is fine."

At this point a PR person tried to cut it off but it went on for a bit more, with Brooks asking Boyle—aged 39—to ask him to leave politely, and then finally he told him to "grow up." As for the Brett that Boyle referenced with maximum contempt? He's another writer for the Post and while he was not there for the session, he addressed it on Twitter:

Response to Dan Boyle? I did my job. Not sure he ever did his.
