Don't mess with Colorado.

A Texas college baseball coach recently ragged on one recruit's state in a message, and the administration didn't take too kindly to it.

According to the Denver Post, Texas Wesleyan coach Mike Jeffcoat was fired today for sending a message to a young recruit named Gavin Bell, saying that their team stopped recruiting players from Colorado because "players have had trouble passing our drug test." Which, y'know, would have been enough. But then Jeffcoat went on to add, "you can thank your liberal politicians."

Here's an image of the email in question:

Texas Wesleyan issued a statement on its website Wednesday, condemning Jeffcoat's message:

The comments by him are in no way a reflection of Texas Wesleyan University or its values. We do not tolerate discrimination. Texas Wesleyan values our students, values our student athletes, and values our diverse and inclusive campus…we want to reiterate that this email does not reflect our values and we do not condone discrimination. This includes discrimination on the basis of race, color, origin, ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disability or sexuality; or the political legislation of one’s home state.”

Texas Wesleyan President Frederick Slabach held a news conference on Thursday to announce Jeffcoat's firing:

“Mike Jeffcoat is no longer an employee of Texas Wesleyan University,” Slabach said. “He was separated from the university due to the discriminatory remarks contained in the email to a potential recruit from the state of Colorado, and for another factor that we have been investigating for the past week.”

According to the Post, Jeffcoat had a traitor on his team—Logan Bistrup, a freshman from Arvada, Colorado. So he wasn't even keeping his biases in line.

So long, Mike Jeffcoat. Best of luck wherever you decide to coach. (It likely won't be Colorado.)
