The soundtrack for Danny Boyle's cult favorite 1996 film Trainspotting holds a special place in a lot of electronic music fans' hearts. It arguably marked the first mainstream stride for machine-produced dance beats in the US, and as THUMP explored in March, it treated electronic music with as much importance as rock music in an exciting new way.

It's for that reason that we can't wait for the sequel, and our anticipation has only grown more intense with the release of the first official trailer for the film this morning. While it doesn't contain any new footage, it does whet our palates with an evocation of the original's thrill, using Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" from the original soundtrack to particularly persuasive effect.

The trailer also announces that T2 will be out on January 27 of 2017, and will begin shooting today. Yesterday, photos emerged of the movie's set in Scotland.
