Gerald Green is Driving Around Houston Trying to Help Flood Victims

Gerald Green, formerly of the Boston Celtics, is a Houston native, and he is out patrolling his hometown streets trying to help people affected by the devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Green jumped on his Instagram account, which he says he rarely uses, to ask locals to help him get people off the roads as the rain continues to fall in Houston. He also specifically requested that anyone with a boat get in touch with him, so they could go out to the flooded neighborhoods and start rescuing people.

Texas officials say at least eight people have been reported dead, and dozens more have been injured due to the storm. The storm could force as many as 30,000 people from their homes when all is said and done. In three days, Harvey has dumped nearly as much rain as Portland, Oregon, receives in one year. In a truly terrifying tweet from over the weekend, the National Weather Service called it "unprecedented" and "beyond anything experienced."

The rain is not expected to stop anytime soon and the NWS has estimated that the area could see up to 25 more inches of rainfall through Friday. Someone get Gerald Green a boat and be safe out there.
