THUMP UK's Seven Most Played

Our pals across the pond round up seven tracks that banged from their office speakers all week.

Welcome to Seven Most Played. THUMP UK's weekly round up of the seven best things we've heard all week.

Suitably for a week when it's been impossible to stand outside for longer than ten seconds without your fingers resembling Ribena Calypsos, our favourite tracks of the week are largely spun from somewhere dark and cold. There's the new Illum Sphere on Ninja Tune, Pinch's rib-rattling return on his own Tectonic with Riko Dan, Rabit and Dedekind Cut's scorching collaboration "r&d", and the samples of Robert Hood's new project Paradygm Shift which will be released in collaboration with Dekmantel. Brothers Ed and Tom Russell (Tessela and Truss) announced they would be relaunching their Poly Kicks label with a release from visual artist Haroon Mirza and, in this case, even more intriguing than the music is the fascinating way in which the beats have been constructed, using turntables, glass, cardboard and other household objects. This week also saw the start of DJ October's stormy new Sacred Pools show on NTS which tears into industrial and punk, neatly bringing us onto our final favourite: Soulwax's eerie yet optimistic rework of Bowie's "Heroes."
