Cancer Survivor James Conner Scores Pitt's First TD of the Season

And as if Conner's stiff-arm touchdown wasn't enough, the man scored another on a nine-yard reception.

Some stories really are that good. Pitt's running back James Conner was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma almost exactly nine months ago and today, his first game back since a year ago, he scored the first touchdown for Pitt this season. Needless to say, it was nothing short of an emotional day for Conner, his family, and the Pitt team.

In last year's opening game, a knee injury put Conner out and, according to interviews with USA Today, he claims that it was his time heeling that caused him to spot the difference in his health. Shortness of breath, swelling, dizziness, loss of sleep.

Even while undergoing his 12 chemotherapy treatments, Conner, 21, would run in a surgical mask, hoping to keep in shape. Conner was officially declared cancer-free on May 23 after a PET scan, and was named starting running back just three months later. The team decided to honor him by having him lead them through the tunnel in today's game against Villanova:

And as if Conner's stiff-arm TD (above) wasn't enough, the man scored another on a nine-yard reception. Pitt later went on to beat Villanova 28-7.
