Canadiens' David Desharnais Slaps Puck Out of the Air for Winter Classic's First Goal

Why can't all hockey games be played outside?

The Winter Classic sure is fun. Heck, every hockey game should be played outside. Yeah, it's hard to maintain the ice, to predict the weather. But didn't hockey start out on winter ponds—just man and the elements?

Ideal settings aside, Canadiens' David Desharnais decided to put on a bit of a spectacle in his own right. Within only 74 seconds, Desharnais found a puck dangling in midair—after bouncing off the pipes—and slapped it in. It wasn't a clean, direct shot, but Desharnais took his stick to the third dimension and it was enough to confuse not only the protective reach of the Boston Bruins goalie, but a defender as well.

The commentator said it looked like a baseball move. Baseball, which is also played outside. Just saying.

UPDATE:

Apparently, MLB is in the air, because there's some more batting practice going on. Check out this nasty mid-air shot.
