Obsessed with texting while trick-or-treating? We've some great reading material for you: Monsters Holding Bitches (@monstersholdingbitches) is an Instagram account curated by Patrick Carney that showcases images of, well, monsters holding the famous femmes of horror films. It also functions as a showcase for a cadre of artists who run in overlapping circles of slime, swamps, and strange creatures. Whether it’s skeletors lashing ecstatic ladies with their bone tongues, slime zombies literally getting some brain, or stills from films your great grandparents probably made out to, you'll scream with joy when you take a scroll. This tribute to the damsel-in-distress is also really good at digging up a surprisingly vast breadth of esoteric monsters. And whether it’s a Golem, Medusa, Ogre or Reptilicus, there is bound to be a cartoon or epic tattoo with content that falls within the MHB theme. Repackaged and expanded as a zine, MHB functions as a loud anthem of this thriving monster-holding subculture. We caught up Carney to talk about MHB and his favorite monsters.
