America Likes Clinton More After the Democratic Convention, Poll Says

At least one new survey suggests the Democratic nominee is getting the highly coveted "convention bounce."

The Democratic National Convention apparently did more than inspire people to buy tiny constitutions in honor of a slain Muslim soldier and copies of A Wrinkle in Time, the sci-fi novel Chelsea Clinton hyped in her big speech. According to a new poll from CBS News, Hillary Clinton has gained four percentage points of support and Donald Trump shed three more, placing the Democrat squarely (if only just slightly) ahead of the GOP nominee heading into the final stretch this fall.

According to the poll, 46 percent of voters said they would cast their votes for Clinton, while 39 percent planned to pull the lever for Trump.

Some of the post-DNC boost can probably be attributed to Bernie Sanders supporters coming over to Clinton's side. Despite a few outraged holdouts heckling the nominee on the convention floor, the new poll finds 73 percent of Sanders supporters now say they'll vote Clinton in November, up from 67 percent earlier last month.

To be sure, post-convention boosts have been known to dissipate, and there's a long road ahead before the election actually rolls around in November. But it looks like all those speeches and sleekly produced video montages might be paying dividends for the Democratic nominee.
