In a new Fox News survey that Donald Trump is unlikely to call "a great poll," 51 percent of Republicans indicated that they'd like a different candidate for the general election, with just 48 percent saying they favor Trump as the nominee. The poll, which was released Wednesday, also found the Republican candidate trailing Hillary Clinton, and that a great majority of voters thinks he is obnoxious.

Clearly, these numbers are pretty terrible for Trump. With just three weeks to go before his planned coronation at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, 44 percent of voters said they favor Clinton in the general election, compared to just 38 percent who said they like Trump. Other recent surveys have found a similar gap, including aWashington Post/ABC poll published Sunday that gave Clinton a 12 percent lead over the real estate tycoon.

Since the previous Fox poll of its kind last month, Trump has lost 9 points in his support from men, 10 points among white people who never graduated from college, and 8 points among Republicans in general. Of the 48 percent of Republicans who would like to see someone else as the party's nominee, only half said they would vote for Trump over Clinton.

In a sign of just how poorly the billionaire is faring as a general election candidate, the Fox News poll also found that a full 89 percent of voters of all political affiliations find Trump "hot-headed," and 83 percent of Fox respondents think Trump is "obnoxious," compared to 38 percent and 45 percent, respectively, who said the same about Clinton.
