Bobby Wood Sends in a Beautiful Goal for USMNT in World Cup Qualifiers

Altidore took a PK after Wood was mauled by the defense, and now the USMNT are sitting comfortably on top of a 3-0 lead.

The U.S. men's national team was looking a little shaky early in the first half of their World Cup qualifying match against (exuberant, delightful) host St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The field is choppy and so were their opponents. But Bobby Wood, savior of US Soccerthe world over, found himself with several tries, with one of them ending in the above 28th-minute beauty.

Fabian Johnson held up a pass from Jozy Altidore and administered some (maybe unintentional?) distribution to Wood, who absolutely curled in his shot like the ribbon on a package. Side netting. Wonderful.

Shortly afterward, in the 32nd minute, Matt Besler—who has seen a lot of bench time recently due to John Brooks' ascent (Brooks is now out with a back injury)—scored one of his own during a set piece. And what a time to do it:

2-0 to the U.S.! What a day for Matt Besler, who celebrates the birth of his daughter earlier in the day with his first #USMNT goal.

Congrats, dad.

Altidore then fired in a PK after Wood was mauled by the defense, and now the USMNT are sitting comfortably on top of a 3-0 lead.

UPDATE:

Alright, alright. Hype train himself, 17-year-old Christian Pulisic, found himself a beautiful section of net—all thanks to Sacha Kljestan's beautiful assistance. No, but goal and assist aside, that first touch is so, so goddamn silky.

GOOOOOAAAAL@cpulisic_10 nets a fourth for @ussoccer. 0-4. #Russia2018 https://t.co/ZciAVHb7o0

And, just to make everyone happy, perrennial Klinsmann snub Kljestan received an assist—in equal measure—from none other than Christian Pulisic.

GOOOAAAAL!!@ussoccer combines for a fifth goal. #Russia2018 https://t.co/hK43Dl5mNo

Too early to say caviar and nesting dolls, but Russia 2018?
